An experimental prototype presented at the Turin Show 1969, the Bertone 2-seater barchetta Runabout, featured an exaggerated wedge shape and an innovative mechanical layout. The drive train of the new Autobianchi A112 was fitted in the centre of the vehicle following the design solution already used for the 1966 Lamborghini Miura and which was a forerunner of the Fiat X1/9 in 1972. The set-back position of the headlights, placed at the two ends of the rear roll-bar, seemed extravagant on the Runabout.
