event: The Racers | country: United States - California

note:
The car was used exclusively during the Mille Miglia race by MGM Studios for the filming of the movie “The Racers” (directed by Henry Hathaway) which was written by the well known Swiss racer, Hans Rueschand produced by Henry Hathaway. The film featured and starred Ceasar Romero, Bella Darvi and Kirk Douglas (Gino Borgesain the film) with technical assistance from Phil Hill. Chassis 0272M was driven in the Mille Miglia on race No.556. (A second Ferrari driven in the race using No. 555 was also used in the movie. This was chassis 0102E which was originally a 212 Touring Barchetta with modified coachwork.) In the movie chassis 0272M was identified as a “Spyder Burano”. Chassis 0272M was actually assigned by the Scuderia Ferrari to Emmanuel de Granffenried and his co-driver, Sig. Parravicini. As a result of the film sequences both Ferrari’s failed to finish the actual race. Much of the driving during the actual race was done by John Fitch and Kirk Douglas. In the film however, Douglas (Borgesa) drives the race of his career narrowly beating out his arch driving enemy Sig. Pepino Dell’Oro (played by Gilbert Roland) for a first place finish. Later the car was painted white.
